Wall to Wall Bowie

A few years ago, my friend Greg took me to see this wonderful jazz gig, arranged and led by the incomparable Janette Mason, whose unique jazz arrangements are legendary. As a massive Bowie fan, I was immediately drawn in by the intricacy of her arrangements and, most of all, by the powerful presence of David McAlmont, whose flamboyance and incredible voice are perfectly matched with his love of Bowie. I will never forget the first time I saw him perform Sweet Thing, with the most intense passion. The photo here is of David and Sam Obernik singing, I think, Life on Mars. Some years later I took my daughter Lucy to see Janette, David and Sam performing Wall to Wall Bowie at Ronnie Scott’s in London for the first time since the start of the pandemic. A wonderful moment.
